Causes

Warts are tiny skin growths that can be found on the toes but its not the only place. Although thy can appear anywhere on your body but the most common areas are hands and fingers actually. Warts on the foot are also referred to as Plantar Warts.

The main cause of warts is HPV (human papillomavirus) which is a contagious virus which can spread through direct as well as indirect contact. You may not develop warts right away after getting in contact with the virus. In some cases it can even take up to 6 months for the wart to develop.

Not everyone who gets exposed to the virus ends up developing the wart. This mostly depends on how strong your immune system is and your body's ability to fight the virus.

Warts can be painful as well. Especially if they develop in clusters, that too between your toes. They are rough, look grainy, and have black dots around them.

Are you sure what you have is a wart?

Warts are often confused with corns. While both of them have many similarities, they have differences too. Here are some simple tips to differentiate between a wart and a corn:

  • Warts can appear anywhere on your body, while corns appear only on the feet area.
  • Warts are sort of grainy bumps with black pinpoints, while corns are hard, flaky, and raised in appearance.
  • Warts are caused by mostly HPV (human papillomavirus), while corns are caused due to friction mostly due to your footwear.

Symptoms

  • Painful to touch
  • Rough skin growth
  • Grainy textured bump
  • Black pinpoints on the bump

Who is at risk?

Although it is common for anyone to develop a wart but there's specific group of people that might be at higher risk than others. For example, as we age most of us develop the immunity to fight HPV. However the same does not go in case of children and young adults. Which makes them more susceptible to develop warts.

Also people who suffer from chronic conditions such as HIV, are also considered to be at a higher risk because body's immune system becomes too weak to fight other viruses such as HPV that causes warts.

Remedies

Warts typically go away on their own and may not even require any treatment. Since it can take quite a while for the wart to appear in the first place (almost 6 months), it may take just as long if not longer for it to go away too.

If your wart happens to be extremely painful up to the point that its giving you problems even standing or doing daily activities, it is best to see your doctor. However if you want to get rid of the wart just for cosmetic reasons, there's a lot of over-the-counter solutions available these days.

For home remedy apple cider vinegar is very popular one amongst all. Products such as patches, creams, and liquids are used to remove warts. Over time the wart ends up becoming softer and gets dissolved eventually. These methods can still take a while to work.

Doctors usually treat a wart by either cutting it, freezing it, or use laser to burn the wart off. Laser technology is also available nowadays for you to get rid of warts at home. Aven Buzz Wart Remover Pen can help you do that, if you're looking for an effective way to get rid of warts on your foot, toes, hands, or fingers.
